THE SEVIER COUNTY EMERGENCY SERVICES COMMITTEE MET LAST NIGHT AND APPROVED A PLAN TO BUILD A NEW JAIL AT THE CURRENT SEVIER COUNTY FAIRGROUND SITE. THE PROPOSAL WILL NOW GO BEFORE THE FULL COUNTY COMMISSION FOR A FINAL VOTE ON AUGUST 8TH.

Thursday afternoon wreck sends one to the hospital
ANOTHER TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENT THURSDAY AFTERNOON IN SEVIERVILLE SENT ONE PERSON TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE WRECK WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 4:30 AT THE INTERSECTION OF MAIN STREET AND KILBY STREET. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER PAUL LAYMON, A TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY 26 YEAR OLD ARLIE WATSON JUNIOR OF SEVIERVILLE, COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY 56 YEAR OLD JEFFERY REECE OF KODAK. HIS PASSENGER, 56 YEAR OLD SUSAN REECE ALSO OF KODAK, WAS TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER WITH UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

THE SEVIER COUNTY UTILITY DISTRICT HAS NOW SOLD IT’S PROPANE BUSINESS TO THE TENNERGY CORPORATION OF TENNESSEE. GENERAL MANAGER MATT BALLARD SAID THAT THE TRANSITION TO THE CUSTOMER SHOULD BE TRANSPARENT, DUE TO THE LEVEL OF CUSTOMER SERVICE EACH PARTY IS DEDICATED TO PROVIDING. Alleged purse snatcher named.
OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE NOW NAMED A TEENAGER THAT WAS ARRESTED TUESDAY EVENING, AFTER ALLEGEDLY TRYING TO SNATCH A WOMAN’S PURSE. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER PRESTON PARRISH, 19 YEAR OLD MICHAEL SATTERFIELD TRIED TO STEAL A PURSE FROM 56 YEAR OLD CAROLINE HALE OF SEVIERVILLE. HALE HAD REPORTEDLY JUST FILLED A PRESCRIPTION AT THE KROGER GROCERY STORE PHARMACY WHEN THE ATTACK OCCURRED. TWO MALE EMPLOYEE’S FROM LOWES WERE ABLE TO CHASE AND CAPTURE THE SUSPECT AND HOLD HIM UNTIL OFFICER PARRISH ARRIVED AT THE SCENE. SATTERFIELD WAS ALLEGEDLY IN POSSESSION OF SEVERAL OTHER PRESCRIPTION PILLS. HE WAS CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ROBBERY, AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND POSSESSION OF NARCOTICS.

Teenager assaulted by father.
A FIFTEEN YEAR OLD FEMALE WAS PLACED INTO THE CARE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN’S SERVICES TUESDAY AFTERNOON, AFTER HE FATHER ALLEGEDLY SLAPPED HER ACROSS THE FACE. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 2 O CLOCK IN FRONT OF THE GATLINBURG CONVENTION CENTRE. ACCORDING TO GATLINBURG POLICE OFFICER CINDY MYERS, THE FATHER FELT THAT THE TEENAGER WAS BEING DISRESPECTFUL. THE MOTHER OF THE CHILD DROVE FROM MEMPHIS TO COLLECT HER DAUGHTER. NO CHARGES HAVE YET BEEN FILED.

Three arrested for shoplifting.
THREE VISITORS TO SEVIER COUNTY WERE ARRESTED OVER THE WEEKEND FOLLOWING A SHOPLIFTING SPREE IN SEVIERVILLE. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED FRIDAY EVENING AT TANGER FIVE OAKS. APPARENTLY AN EMPLOYEE FROM THE IZOD STORE REPORTED THAT THREE MEN HAD SHOPLIFTED MERCHANDISE AND LEFT THE STORE IN A GRAY CHEVROLET ASTRO VAN. A FEW MINUTES LATER, SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER PAUL LAYMON STOPPED THE SUSPECT VEHICLE ON FORKS OF THE RIVER PARKWAY. DURING A SEARCH OF THE VEHICLE, LAYMON ALLEGEDLY FOUND APPROXIMATELY TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS WORTH OF STOLEN MERCHANDISE THAT HAD BEEN TAKEN FROM THE IZOD AND BANANA REPUBLIC STORES. HE ALSO DISCOVERED TWO LARGE SHOPPING BAGS THAT HAD BEEN ALTERED TO DEFEAT STORE SECURITY DEVICES. 37 YEAR OLD ALBERTO BERNAL OF NEW YORK CITY, 23 YEAR OLD SAMUEL BATISTA OF GREENVILLE SOUTH CAROLINA, AND 23 YEAR OLD CARLOS CHECARO OF PUERTO RICO, WERE ALL SUBSEQUENTLY ARRESTED AND EACH CHARGED WITH FELONY THEFT. ALL THREE ARE BEING HELD ON FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS BOND EACH.

Alleged robbery at Sevierville jewelry store.
OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE INVESTIGATING AN ALLEGED ROBBERY THAT OCCURRED MONDAY AFTERNOON. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER KEVIN STONE, THREE PEOPLE ALLEGEDLY ENTERED THE ULTRA JEWELRY STORE AT TANGER FIVE OAKS JUST BEFORE 5 O CLOCK. WHILE TWO OF THEM DISTRACTED THE STORE EMPLOYEE, THE THIRD SUBJECT WENT BEHIND THE COUNTER AND HELPED HIMSELF TO AN UNDISCLOSED AMOUNT OF DIAMONDS AND JEWELRY FROM THE SAFE. THE TWO BLACK MALES AND ONE BLACK FEMALE THEN FLED THE STORE. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION IS ASKED TO CALL DETECTIVE KEVIN BUSH AT: 453 – 5506.

Amusement park manager sentenced.
ROCKING RACEWAY AMUSEMENT PARK MANAGER CHARLES STAN MARTIN HAS NOW BEEN SENTENCED FOR THE RECKLESS HOMICIDE OF JUNE CAROL ALEXANDER, WHO FELL TO HER DEATH FROM THE HAWK RIDE IN MARCH OF 2004. JUDGE RICHARD VANCE SENTENCED MARTIN TO FOUR YEARS PROBATION, TWO OF WHICH WILL BE SUPERVISED. HE WILL ALSO NEED TO PERFORM 200 HOURS OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AND WAS FINED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. MARTIN IS APPEALING THE SENTENCE.

A SEVIER COUNTY TEENAGER WAS ARRESTED LAST NIGHT AFTER ALLEGEDLY ATTEMPTING TO SNATCH A WOMAN’S PURSE. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 8 O CLOCK IN FRONT OF THE KROGER GROCERY STORE IN SEVIERVILLE. APPARENTLY, TWO MALE SUBJECTS WHO WERE LOADING LUMBER AT LOWES, HEARD THE WOMAN’S SCREAMS AND CHASED THE SUSPECT DOWN. THE TWO GOOD SAMARITANS THEN HELD THE TEENAGER UNTIL POLICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL ARRIVED AT THE SCENE. THE UN-NAMED SUSPECT WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AND THE FEMALE VICTIM WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE WITH A POSSIBLE BROKEN ARM.

Attempted child abduction in Pigeon Forge.
OFFICIALS WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE INVESTIGATING AN ATTEMPTED CHILD ABDUCTION THAT HAPPENED ON WEARS VALLEY ROAD LAST NIGHT. ACCORDING TO LIEUTENANT BARBARA WARD WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT, A NINE YEAR OLD GIRL WAS APPROACHED BY A WHITE MALE AT THE MOUNT TRACE MOTEL JUST BEFORE 5:30. THE SUSPECT ALLEGEDLY GRABBED THE VICTIM, SHOWED HER A HANDGUN, AND ATTEMPTED TO FORCE HER INTO HIS VEHICLE. THE SUSPECT IS DESCRIBED AS A THIN WHITE MALE, APPROXIMATELY 35 YEARS OF AGE, AND FIVE FOOT TEN INCHES TALL. HE WAS LAST SEEN WEARING WHITE SHORTS, A RED CAP AND BLACK SUNGLASSES WITH FLAMES ON THE EAR PIECES. THE SUSPECT WAS DRIVING A LATE MODEL VOLKSWAGEN BEETLE, RED IN COLOR WITH BLACK GRAPHICS ON THE SIDE. Trial of former Seymour teacher postponed.
THE TRIAL OF A FORMER SEYMOUR HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER ACCUSED OF HAVING SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH A 16 YEAR OLD BOY, HAS BEEN STAYED INDEFINITELY. KRISTI OAKS’ TRIAL WAS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN ON WEDNESDAY BUT THE TENNESSEE COURT OF CRIMINAL APPEALS, HAS GRANTED HER MOTION TO FILE AN APPEAL OF THE TRIAL COURTS RULING THAT UPHELD THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY’S DENIAL OF PRETRIAL DIVERSION. THE PRETRIAL DIVERSION WOULD ALLOW OAKS TO BE PLACED ON PROBATION WITHOUT HAVING TO PLEAD GUILTY. IF THE TRIAL COURTS DECISION IS UPHELD THEN THE CASE WILL BE RESET FOR PLEA AND TRIAL. OAKS WAS ARRESTED LAST SUMMER WHEN OFFICIALS FOUND HER AND THE TEENAGER IN A PARKED CAR NEAR DOUGLAS DAM.

Mother arrested for leaving child in car.
A SEYMOUR WOMAN WAS ARRESTED MONDAY AFTERNOON AFTER LEAVING HER SIX MONTH OLD BABY IN A CAR OUTSIDE A SEVIERVILLE DEPARTMENT STORE. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE SPOKESMAN JIM DEANDA, THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 1:30 BY A BYSTANDER WHO NOTICED THE UNATTENDED INFANT AT THE BELK’S MALL PARKING AREA. SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICERS TIM COULTER AND MATT AYRES RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AND REMOVED THE CHILD FROM THE VEHICLE. THE TEMPERATURE INSIDE THE CAR WAS MEASURED USING A THERMAL IMAGING CAMERA, AND WAS APPROXIMATELY 125 DEGREES. 18 YEAR OLD LORI OBERLIES WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FELONY CHILD ABUSE. THE CHILD WAS PLACED INTO THE CARE OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN’S SERVICES. THE SEVIERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE ALSO RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

SATURDAY’S 8TH ANNUAL LOUISE MANDRELL SMOKY MOUNTAIN RUN FOR THE BOY SCOUTS, RAISED JUST OVER FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS. APPROXIMATELY 450 RUNNERS TOOK PART IN THE 5K RACE THAT WAS WON BY 25 YEAR OLD IAN CONNER OF NORTH CAROLINA WITH A TIME OF FOURTEEN MINUTES AND FIFTEEN SECONDS.

City of Gatlinburg fined.
THE CITY OF GATLINBURG HAS BEEN FINED AFTER THE CITY’S WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT APPARENTLY VIOLATED IT’S NATIONAL POLLUTION DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM. ACCORDING TO THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVATION, UNTREATED WASTEWATER WAS DISCHARGED INTO THE WEST PRONG OF THE LITTLE PIGEON RIVER. THE CITY MUST PAY A FIFTEEN THOUSAND DOLLAR FINE UNLESS IT CHOOSES TO APPEAL THE DECISION. THE CITY HAS ALSO BEEN GIVEN 90 DAYS TO COME UP WITH A PLAN TO CORRECT THE SITUATION.

Seymour wreck kills two.
A TWO VEHICLE WRECK EARLY SUNDAY MORNING IN SEVIER COUNTY KILLED TWO PEOPLE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 2:30 ON CHAPMAN HIGHWAY NEAR WYE DRIVE. APPARENTLY, 26 YEAR OLD GRETCHEN GRAHAM OF SEYMOUR WAS DRIVING NORTHBOUND, WHEN HER VEHICLE CROSSED THE MEDIAN AND HIT ANOTHER CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 54 YEAR OLD LINDA WELCH, ALSO OF SEYMOUR. BOTH WOMEN WERE PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. NEITHER ONE WAS WEARING A SEATBELT. THE ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE SEYMOUR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE AND THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION HAS ANNOUNCED THAT A SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL, WILL BE ONE OF 37 SCHOOLS FROM ACROSS THE STATE, THAT WILL PARTICIPATE IN A NEW ONLINE FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT PROGRAM DESIGNED TO HELP RAISE TEST SCORES. THE NEW CENTRE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL WAS SELECTED AS ONE OF THE SCHOOLS THAT WILL PILOT THE NEW PRINCETON REVIEW TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM, THIS COMING SCHOOL YEAR.

OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT ARE INVESTIGATING A STABBING THAT OCCURRED THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 2 O CLOCK AT AN APARTMENT IN THE 3200 BLOCK OF ALTON DRIVE IN THE KODAK AREA. ACCORDING TO DETECTIVE STEPHANIE MCCLURE, DEPUTIES FOUND 39 YEAR OLD PATRICIA PHILLIPS WITH A SINGLE STAB WOUND TO THE STOMACH. PHILLIPS WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE WHERE SHE UNDERWENT SURGERY, AND IS CURRENTLY LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION. THAT INCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK EARLY THIS MORNING IN SEVIER COUNTY SENT THE DRIVER TO THE HOSPITAL. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 4:30 ON CHAPMAN HIGHWAY NEAR THE INTERSECTION WITH MCMAHAN ROAD IN SEYMOUR. THE UN-NAMED DRIVER APPARENTLY LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH HIT A POWER POLE AND ROLLED OVER ONTO IT’S TOP. NO FURTHER INFORMATION IS KNOWN AT THIS TIME. A VISITOR TO THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK ENDED UP AT FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE FOLLOWING A FALL WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON. ACCORDING TO PARK SPOKESPERSON NANCY GRAY, THE UN-NAMED 24 YEAR OLD FEMALE FROM CONWAY SOUTH CAROLINA WAS CLIMBING ON THE RIVER ROCKS AT THE CHIMNEY’S PICNIC AREA, WHEN SHE SLIPPED AND APPARENTLY FRACTURED HER TAILBONE. THE GATLINBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT AND PARK RANGERS RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 3:30 ON MIDDLE CREEK ROAD NEAR THE INTERSECTION WITH EARNEST MCMAHAN ROAD. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER PRESTON PARRISH, A CHEVY BLAZER BEING DRIVEN BY 24 YEAR OLD JOSHUA JUSTUS OF LYNCHBURG VIRGINIA, COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY 33 YEAR OLD CHRISTOPHER STRICKLAND OF SEVIERVILLE. JUSTUS AND HIS PASSENGER, 22 YEAR OLD MISTY ENDICOTT OF HURLEY VIRGINIA, WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Sullivan Co. deputy arrested in Sevierville.
A SULLIVAN COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY WAS ARRESTED MONDAY NIGHT IN SEVIERVILLE FOLLOWING A TWO VEHICLE WRECK. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 11 O CLOCK ON THE PARKWAY NEAR IHOP. ACCORDING TO POLICE REPORTS AND WITNESS STATEMENTS, AFTER THE COLLISION, 29 YEAR OLD DAVID JONES JUNIOR OF KINGSPORT TENNESSEE, ALLEGEDLY GOT OUT OF HIS VEHICLE, BROKE THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW USING BRASS KNUCKLES, AND REPEATEDLY HIT THE OTHER DRIVER IN THE FACE. THE INJURED DRIVER, 32 YEAR OLD JESSIE MCCLURE OF SEVIERVILLE, GOT OUT OF HIS CAR USING THE PASSENGER DOOR AND RAN TO A NEARBY BUSINESS THE CALL THE POLICE. SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICERS DAVID FINCHUM, BRIAN LEWELLING AND SERGEANT SAM HINSON RESPONDED TO THE SCENE AND ARRESTED JONES ON AGGRAVATED ASSAULT CHARGES. MCCLURE WAS CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD. JONES, A FORMER SULLIVAN COUNTY DEPUTY WAS RELEASED ON A TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLAR BOND.

Sevier Co. man dead following tractor accident.
A SEVIER COUNTY MAN IS DEAD FOLLOWING A TRACTOR ACCIDENT TUESDAY MORNING. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 11:30 AT A FARM ON PANTHER CREEK ROAD, NEAR ZION HILL ROAD. ACCORDING TO SHERIFF BRUCE MONTGOMERY, 70 YEAR OLD MAYFORD BLALOCK WAS OPERATING THE TRACTOR ON HIS PROPERTY WHEN THE VEHICLE OVERTURNED AND PINNED HIM BENEATH IT. BLALOCK WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE SEYMOUR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT ACCIDENT.

OFFICIALS WITH THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK HAVE ANNOUNCED THAT A TEMPORARY CONCESSION CONTRACT FOR THE TROUBLED SUGARLANDS RIDING STABLE HAS NOW BEEN AWARDED. THE PARK SERVICE TERMINATED THE CONTRACT OF THE PRIOR CONCESSIONAIRE, AFTER THEY FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THEIR CONTRACTUAL OBLIGATIONS. PARK SUPERINTENDENT DALE DITMANSON ANNOUNCED THAT THE HORSE RIDING STABLE WILL BE RUN ON A TEMPORARY BASIS BY SMOKY MOUNTAIN STABLES, WHICH ALREADY RUNS ONE OTHER PARK RIDING CONCESSION ON HIGHWAY 321. THE TEMPORARY CONTRACT WILL EXPIRE AT THE END OF OCTOBER 2006 AT WHICH TIME THE CONCESSION WILL ONCE AGAIN BE PUT UP FOR BID. THE SUGARLANDS RIDING STABLE WILL BE OPEN TO THE PUBLIC TODAY.

ACCORDING TO JIM DEANDA WITH THE CITY OF SEVIERVILLE, AN OFFICE SAFE WAS FOUND IN THE PARKING LOT AND HAD BEEN BROKEN INTO. Dump truck driver flown to U.T. Medical centre.
A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK MONDAY MORNING IN SEVIER COUNTY SENT THE DRIVER TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 9 O CLOCK ON SOUTH CLEAR FORK ROAD, JUST OFF OF HAPPY HOLLOW ROAD IN THE WEARS VALLEY COMMUNITY. ACCORDING TO PIGEON FORGE FIRE ADMINISTRATOR GREG PATTERSON, THE DRIVER OF A DUMP TRUCK LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHICH THEN ROLLED DOWN A FIFTY FOOT EMBANKMENT. 59 YEAR OLD RICHARD HEWTON, WAS TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY THREE HOURS BEFORE FIREFIGHTERS WERE ABLE TO EXTRICATE HIM. HEWTON IS LISTED IN STABLE CONDITION. THE PIGEON FORGE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE WEARS VALLEY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE, ALL RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

ANOTHER TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENT MONDAY AFTERNOON ON HIGHWAY 338 –DOUGLAS DAM ROAD, ALSO SENT TWO PEOPLE TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. THE WRECK WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 5 O CLOCK ON THE BRIDGE NEAR THE DAM. THE CONDITION OF BOTH UN-NAMED DRIVERS THAT WERE INVOLVED IN THE HEAD-ON COLLISION, IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE NORTHVIEW VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Mother who allegedly abandoned child arrested.
OFFICIALS WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE NOW ARRESTED A MOTHER WHO ALLEGEDLY ABANDONED HER FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD AT A PARKWAY MOTEL. THE YOUNG BOY WAS FOUND SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE FAMILY INN’S WEST MOTEL. ACCORDING TO CAPTAIN DENNIS ADAMS WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT, 37 YEAR OLD MARGARET SPIROS RETURNED TO THE MOTEL MONDAY MORNING AND THEN BOARDED A TROLLEY. PIGEON FORGE POLICE OFFICER MARK VANCE SPOTTED SPIROS, STOPPED THE TROLLEY AND TOOK HER INTO CUSTODY. SPIROS HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH CHILD NEGLECT, RECKLESS ABANDONMENT AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA. NO COURT DATE HAS YET BEEN SET.

Sevierville man accused of molesting 8 year old.
OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE ARRESTED A SEVIERVILLE MAN AND CHARGED HIM WITH THREE FELONY COUNTS OF AGGRAVATED SEXUAL BATTERY. SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER GRAHAM OWNBY RESPONDED TO THE SEVIERVILLE HOME OF A WOMAN WHO CLAIMED THAT AN ACQUAINTANCE OF HERS, HAD SEXUALLY MOLESTED HER EIGHT YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. DETECTIVE KEVIN BUSH CONDUCTED AND INVESTIGATION AND SUBSEQUENTLY ARRESTED 28 YEAR OLD LLOYD COOPER OF SEVIERVILLE. COOPER IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD AT THE SEVIER COUNTY JAIL ON A TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR BOND.

A TWO VEHICLE ACCIDENT THURSDAY MORNING IN SEVIERVILLE TIED UP TRAFFIC FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE WRECK WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 9 O CLOCK AT THE INTERSECTION OF THE PARKWAY AND FORKS OF THE RIVER PARKWAY. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER TONY PRICE, A MINIVAN BEING DRIVEN BY 41 YEAR OLD DAPHNE BUSH OF LOUISVILLE TENNESSEE, COLLIDED WITH A VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN 39 YEAR OLD DEBORAH JOHNSON OF POWELL, TENNESSEE. THE 50 YEAR OLD UN-NAMED MALE RIDER WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE SUGARLANDS VISITOR CENTRE AND THEN FLOWN TO U.T. WHERE HE IS LISTED IN SERIOUS CONDITION. THE GATLINBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT AND PARK RANGERS RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

A PUBLIC MEETING HELD IN GATLINBURG LAST NIGHT REGARDING PHASES FOUR AND FIVE OF THE UNDERGROUNDING AND STREETSCAPE PROJECT, BEGAN ON A POSITIVE NOTE WHEN RICK HARRELL FROM THE SEVIER COUNTY ELECTRIC SYSTEM, ANNOUNCED THAT THEY HAD BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE A MANUFACTURER THAT COULD SUPPLY UNDERGROUND TRANSFORMERS FOR THE PROJECT. THE WORK IS SCHEDULED TO START AT THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER.

ANOTHER ACCIDENT IN SEVIER COUNTY JUST AFTER 3 O CLOCK, ALSO SENT THE VICTIM TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. APPARENTLY, 35 YEAR OLD LONNIE MAPLES FELL FROM A ROOF IN THE 500 BLOCK OF OLD COVERED BRIDGE ROAD. HE RECEIVED A HEAD INJURY AND VARIOUS OTHER CUTS AND BRUISES. A LANDING ZONE WAS SET UP AT THE WALTERS STATE CAMPUS IN SEVIERVILLE. HIS CONDITION IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. A SMALL POWER OUTAGE EARLY THIS MORNING LED TO THE ARREST OF A SEVIER COUNTY MAN. THE SEVIER COUNTY ELECTRIC SYSTEM STARTED TO RECEIVE CALLS JUST BEFORE 4:30, FROM CUSTOMERS IN THE GLEN HAVEN SUB DIVISION AREA ON RUTH LANE, JUST OF OFF ROBERT HENDERSON ROAD. WHEN A WORK CREW ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE OUTAGE WAS A CAR THAT HAT HIT A POWER POLE. THE UN-NAMED MALE DRIVER WAS TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE WITH MINOR INJURIES. HE WILL ALSO LIKELY BE CHARGED WITH D.U.I. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

A FREAK ACCIDENT TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN SEVIER COUNTY SENT A GATLINBURG MAN TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 12 NOON AT LAUREL POINT, JUST OFF OF SKI MOUNTAIN ROAD. ACCORDING TO CAPTAIN EDDIE RUPART WITH THE GATLINBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT, A MALE THAT WAS CUTTING HIS GRASS WITH A PUSH MOWER, SLIPPED AND FELL AND WAS CUT ON THE FOOT BY THE MOWER BLADE. THE UN-NAMED VICTIM LOST HIS BIG TOE AND PART OF ANOTHER. THE GATLINBURG FIRE AND POLICE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

Pigeon Forge reaches agreement with developer.
PIGEON FORGE CITY COMMISSIONERS MET LAST NIGHT AT CITY HALL, AND ANNOUNCED THAT A SETTLEMENT HAD BEEN REACHED WITH DEVELOPERS REGARDING 35 ACRES OF LAND THAT THE CITY WAS TRYING TO CONDEMN. THE CITY OF PIGEON FORGE HAS AGREED TO PAY THE RIVERWALK PARK DEVELOPERS, SEVENTEEN AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS FOR THE 35 ACRES OF LAND LOCATED ON THE OLD JAKE THOMAS FARM PROPERTY. THE CITY WILL USE THE LAND TO BUILD A PARKING LOT AND TROLLEY HUB. THE DEVELOPERS WILL ALSO DONATE SEVEN AND A HALF ACRES OF LAND WHICH THE CITY WILL USE TO COMPLETE TWO NEW ROAD PROJECTS.

A FIRE LAST NIGHT DESTROYED A SEVIERVILLE HOME. THE BLAZE WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 10:30 IN THE 500 BLOCK OF RIDGE ROAD. PORTIONS OF RIDGE ROAD AND PARK ROAD WERE CLOSED WHILE FIRE FIGHTERS FOUGHT THAT BLAZE. ALTHOUGH HE TRAILER WAS A COMPLETE LOSS, LUCKILY, NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE SEVIERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT, POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE, ALL RESPONDED TO THAT BLAZE.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD TODAY FOR 26 YEAR OLD JASON SHULTS, WHO DIED FOLLOWING AN ATV ACCIDENT THURSDAY EVENING. SHULTS AND HIS THREE YEAR OLD SON WERE FOUND IN A WOODED AREA JUST OFF OF SOAK ASH ROAD NEAR HIGHWAY 321. THE INFANT WAS FLOWN TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE, BUT APPARENTLY RECEIVED JUST MINOR INJURIES. JASON SHULTS WHO WAS A TEACHER AT PI BETA PHI ELEMENTARY, LEAVES BEHIND A WIFE AND SON.

OVER 100 PEOPLE WERE EVACUATED FROM A SEVIER COUNTY MOTEL EARLY THURSDAY MORNING, AFTER A FIRE BROKE OUT IN A THIRD STORY ROOM. THE BLAZE WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 3:30 AT THE RAMADA INN IN KODAK. THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED TO ONE ROOM BUT SEVERAL OTHER ROOMS RECEIVED SMOKE AND WATER DAMAGE. INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE THAT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM STARTED THAT BLAZE.

THE UN-IDENTIFIED MALE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. A CHILD PASSENGER WAS APPARENTLY UN-INJURED. OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT HAVE CHARGED A SEVIER COUNTY MAN WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER AFTER DISCOVERING A BODY YESTERDAY. THE DECEASED VICTIM HAS BEEN TENTATIVELY IDENTIFIED AS 32 YEAR OLD SHARON ACOSTA OF KNOXVILLE, WHO HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE JULY 1ST. THE BODY WAS FOUND BURIED AT A CONSTRUCTION SITE JUST OFF OF BOYD’S CREEK HIGHWAY. DETECTIVES WITH THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT EXECUTED A SEARCH WARRANT THURSDAY AFTERNOON AT THE SEVIER COUNTY HOME OF TERRY EDWIN JUSTUS. JUSTUS WAS SUBSEQUENTLY ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH FIRST DEGREE MURDER. HE IS BEING HELD WITHOUT BOND AT THE SEVIER COUNTY JAIL. THAT INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.

APPARENTLY, ONE JUVENILE HAS ALREADY BEEN ARRESTED AND AUTHORITIES ARE SEARCHING FOR A SECOND SUSPECT. THE STOLEN F-250 TRUCK, DUMP TRUCK AND CEMENT MIXER WERE ALL APPARENTLY RECOVERED ON CATE ROAD IN SEVIERVILLE. A GET-A-WAY VEHICLE WAS ALSO RECOVERED IN A NEARBY DITCH. Sevier Solid Waste receives state grant.
THE STATE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND CONSERVATION HAS ANNOUNCED THAT SEVIER SOLID WASTE WILL RECEIVE A FIFTY NINE THOUSAND AND SIXTY SIX DOLLAR GRANT FOR A PROGRAM THAT RECYCLES TIRES. THE MONEY WILL BE USED TO HELP DIVERT WASTE TIRES FROM THE LAND FILL, AND USE THEM FOR ASPHALT PAVING, MOLDED RUBBER PRODUCTS AND TIRE DERIVED FUELS.

A FOUR VEHICLE CHAIN REACTION WRECK IN SEVIERVILLE TUESDAY MORNING SENT TWO PEOPLE TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 9:30 IN THE SOUTHBOUND LANES OF HIGHWAY 66 NEAR THE RAY L. REAGAN BRIDGE. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER MATT AYERS, A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 20 YEAR OLD MICHAEL MCMAHAN OF CLINTON, STRUCK THE REAR OF A VAN BEING DRIVEN BY 60 YEAR OLD LARRY TEMPLETON OF RINGGOLD, GEORGIA. THAT COLLISION APPARENTLY CAUSED TEMPLETON’S VAN TO HIT A VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN BY 37 YEAR OLD KIMBERLY GARRETT OF STRAWBERRY PLAINS AND A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 24 YEAR OLD LEONA BURKE OF KNOXVILLE. TEMPLETON AND HIS WIFE LINDA, WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO U.T. MCMAHAN WAS CITED FOR THE UNSAFE OPERATION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE ALL RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

GATLINBURG FIRE CHIEF GARY WEST HAS RESIGNED HIS POSITION TO BECOME A FIRE MANAGEMENT CONSULTANT, WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE MUNICIPAL TECHNICAL ADVISORY SERVICE. WEST WAS APPOINTED FIRE CHIEF IN JULY OF 2001. HIS LAST DAY WILL BE AUGUST 15TH. NO WORD YET ON A POSSIBLE REPLACEMENT.

ACCORDING TO PARK SPOKESMAN BOB MILLER, THE FOUR YEAR OLD CHILD FELL ABOUT 30 FEET FROM A STONE RETAINING WALL AT THE MEGS FALLS OVERLOOK PARKING LOT, JUST OFF OF LITTLE RIVER ROAD. THE CHILD AND HIS FAMILY WERE VISITING THE AREA FROM INDIANA. THE CHILDS CONDITION IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. THE GATLINBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT AND PARK RANGERS RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

Fire destroys Barn and motor home.
A FIRE THURSDAY AFTERNOON DESTROYED A SEVIER COUNTY BARN AND ALL OF THE EQUIPMENT THAT WAS BEING STORED INSIDE. THE BLAZE WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 2:30 IN THE ONE THOUSAND BLOCK OF FRANKLIN DRIVE, JUST OFF OF RIVER DIVIDE ROAD. APPARENTLY, A TRACTOR, A MOTOR HOME AND SEVERAL OTHER PIECES OF FARM EQUIPMENT WERE DESTROYED. THE CAUSE OF THAT BLAZE IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. THE WALDEN’S CREEK VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE SEVIER COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THAT BLAZE.

Wreck claims the life of Sevier Co. man.
A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK THURSDAY MORNING IN GATLINBURG HAS CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A SEVIER COUNTY MAN. ACCORDING TO GATLINBURG FIRE CHIEF GARY WEST, THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 9 O CLOCK IN THE 400 BLOCK OF GLADES ROAD NEAR LORELEI CANDLES. APPARENTLY, 27 YEAR OLD JOSH CARR OF DIXON BRANCH ROAD, LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE AND HIT A TREE. CARR WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. HIS PASSENGER 39 YEAR OLD JUAN GARCIA OF GATLINBURG WAS UN-INJURED. THE CAUSE OF THAT ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE GATLINBURG POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

THREE SEVIER COUNTY MEN WERE ARRESTED OVERNIGHT FOLLOWING AN ALLEGED DRIVE-BY SHOOTING IN THE BOYD’S CREEK COMMUNITY. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 11 O CLOCK. AUTHORITIES WERE ASKED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR A GREEN HONDA THAT WAS ALLEGEDLY USED DURING THAT INCIDENT. THE UN-NAMED SUSPECTS WERE APPREHENDED A SHORT TIME LATER AT A HOME ON RIVER VALLEY CIRCLE IN SEVIERVILLE. NO INJURIES HAVE BEEN REPORTED. OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE NOW RELEASED THE NAMES OF TWO MEN WHO WERE ARRESTED EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING IN CONJUNCTION WITH A JOHNSON CITY MURDER INVESTIGATION. ACCORDING TO LIEUTENANT D.J. KIRBY WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, OFFICERS BRIAN LLEWELN AND MIKE ODOM STOPPED A BUICK SEDAN AND A CHEVY CAPRICE ON FORKS OF THE RIVER PARKWAY, BECAUSE THE VEHICLES MATCHED A DESCRIPTION GIVEN BY JOHNSON CITY OFFICIALS. 25 YEAR OLD JASON CHARLES AUSTIN AND 20 YEAR OLD DANNY LEE GREEN WERE BOTH TAKEN INTO CUSTODY, AS WERE TWO FEMALE COMPANIONS AND A INFANT THAT WAS PLACED INTO THE CUSTODY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF CHILDREN’S SERVICES. AUSTIN AND GREEN WERE HELD AT THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT UNTIL JOHNSON CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL TRANSPORTED THEM BACK TO THE TRI CITIES AREA.

A TRAFFIC STOP OVERNIGHT IN SEVIER COUNTY LED TO THE ARREST OF FOUR PEOPLE, TWO OF WHICH ARE SUSPECTS WANTED IN CONNECTION WITH A JOHNSON CITY MURDER. APPARENTLY, POLICE AGENCIES IN THE AREA HAD BEEN ASKED TO BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THE SUSPECTS BY AUTHORITIES IN JOHNSON CITY. ACCORDING TO PUBLIC INFORMATION OFFICER BOB STAHLKE, SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICERS BRIAN LLEWELN AND MIKE ODOM OBSERVED TWO VEHICLES MATCHING THE GIVEN DESCRIPTION, ON FORKS OF THE RIVER PARKWAY JUST BEFORE 2 O CLOCK THIS MORNING. A FREAK ACCIDENT IN SEYMOUR TUESDAY AFTERNOON SENT TWO PEOPLE TO THE HOSPITAL. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 3:30 IN THE EIGHTY THREE HUNDRED BLOCK OF CHAPMAN HIGHWAY, ACROSS FROM CIRCLE DRIVE. APPARENTLY, A BUCKET TRUCK PERFORMING UTILITY WORK ROLLED OVER ONTO A PASSING S.U.V. THE UN-NAMED DRIVER AND PASSENGER IN THE CHEVY BLAZER WERE TRAPPED INSIDE THE VEHICLE FOR A SHORT TIME, WHILE AUTHORITIES CUT THE POWER TO LINES THAT HAD BEEN BROUGHT DOWN BY THE BUCKET TRUCK. BOTH VICTIMS WERE THEN TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE SEYMOUR VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

PIGEON FORGE POLICE OFFICER TOM PRESLEY REPORTED THAT AN S.U.V BEING DRIVEN BY A 16 YEAR OLD FEMALE FROM PIGEON FORGE, COLLIDED WITH A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 26 YEAR OLD AMANDA WARDWELL OF BEAN STATION. WARDWELL’S FOUR YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO WAS A PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE WAS UN-INJURED. THE TEENAGE DRIVER RECEIVED A BROKEN ARM AND WARDWELL RECEIVED INJURIES TO HER ANKLE. OFFICIALS SAY THAT 5 MONTH OLD KAYLEE RAIN BAKER WAS ABDUCTED BY 30 YEAR OLD DANIEL ALEXANDER RORY, WHO HAS NO CUSTODIAL RIGHTS TO THE LITTLE GIRL. THE CHILD WAS FOUND A FEW HOURS LATER AT A HOME IN KODAK. AUTHORITIES ARE STILL LOOKING FOR RORY WHO IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE WEIGHING 200 POUNDS, APPROXIMATELY FIVE FOOT NINE INCHES TALL, WITH A SHAVED HEAD AND GREEN EYES. A MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT INSIDE THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK YESTERDAY SENT THE RIDER TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. THE WRECK WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 10:30 ON THE FOOTHILLS PARKWAY NEAR THE LOOK ROCK OVERLOOK. ACCORDING TO PARK SPOKESMAN BOB MILLER, 30 YEAR OLD MIREL PANTUS OF DES PLAINS, ILLINOIS, WAS TRAVELLING WEST BOUND WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS KAWASAKI BIKE. THE VEHICLE SKIDDED APPROXIMATELY 280 FEET AND HIT AN UN-OCCUPIED 15 PASSENGER VAN. ALTHOUGH THE VICTIM WAS CONSCIOUS WHEN PARK RANGERS ARRIVED, HE WAS APPARENTLY SUFFERING FROM MAJOR INTERNAL INJURIES AND IS CURRENTLY LISTED IN CRITICAL CONDITION. PARK RANGERS ARE CONTINUING THAT INVESTIGATION.

TWO WANTED FUGITIVES WERE ARRESTED THURSDAY AFTERNOON BY OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT. 43 YEAR OLD JOHNNY RAY POPE WAS APPARENTLY WANTED BY AUTHORITIES IN NORTH CAROLINA, FLORIDA AND TENNESSEE. NORTH CAROLINA AUTHORITIES CONTACTED THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK A MOTEL ON HIGHWAY 321. WHEN SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ARRIVED AT THE L-RANCH MOTEL THEY SEARCHED THE AREA FOR ABOUT SIX HOURS BEFORE FINDING POPE HIDING UNDER A BED IN AN UN-RENTED ROOM. POPE HAD APPARENTLY MOVED TO SEVERAL LOCATIONS INSIDE THE MOTEL BY USING THE ATTIC CRAWL SPACE. POPE’S 17 YEAR OLD GIRLFRIEND WHO WAS ALSO A WANTED FUGITIVE, WAS ALSO TAKEN INTO CUSTODY. OFFICIALS ALSO RECOVERED A STOLEN FORD TRUCK, AN ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE AND TWO COMPUTERS, ALL ALLEGEDLY STOLEN FROM NORTH CAROLINA. THE GATLINBURG POLICE DEPARTMENT ALSO ASSISTED WITH THE ARRESTS.

A SEVIERVILLE TEENAGER WAS TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE THURSDAY AFTERNOON, AFTER BEING STRUCK BY A CAR WHILST RIDING HIS BIKE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 4 O CLOCK IN THE 600 BLOCK OF BROAD STREET. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER KEVIN STONE, 14 YEAR OLD TYLER STEVENS WAS APPARENTLY CROSSING THE STREET ON HIS BICYCLE, WHEN HE COLLIDED WITH A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 58 YEAR OLD TERESA HOFFMAN OF PIGEON FORGE. LUCKILY, THE TEENAGERS INJURIES WERE NOT THOUGHT TO BE SERIOUS. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

THE SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM IS BEING SUED BY THE MOTHER OF A FORMER SEYMOUR INTERMEDIATE STUDENT. THE FIVE AND A HALF MILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL LAWSUIT WAS FILED YESTERDAY IN KNOXVILLE, AND NAMES THE DEFENDANTS AS THE SEVIER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION, DIRECTOR JACK PARTON AND SEYMOUR INTERMEDIATE PRINCIPAL SUSAN LATHAM. KARLA BAILEY CLAIMS THAT HER 11 YEAR OLD SON WAS THE VICTIM OF RACIAL ABUSE AND THAT THE SCHOOL SYSTEM FAILED TO PROTECT THE BOY FROM HOSTILITY FROM OTHER STUDENTS AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL. THE ALLEGED INCIDENT THAT STARTED THE ABUSE, OCCURRED ON A SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL BUS IN FEBRUARY. A COURT DATE HAS NOT YET BEEN SET.

ACCORDING TO DETECTIVE JEFF MCCARTER WITH THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, UNDERCOVER OFFICERS WERE ABLE TO FINALLY APPREHEND RAINES DURING A STING OPERATION EARLY SATURDAY MORNING. APPARENTLY, THE ASSAULT TOOK PLACE THE WEEK BEFORE AT THE WOMAN’S RESIDENCE ON RED BANK ROAD. RAINES IS BEING HELD ON A TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND DOLLAR BOND AND WILL APPEAR IN COURT ON JULY 29TH.

ONLY ALDERMEN ED WHITE WAS AGAINST PASSING THE BUDGET AFTER STATING THAT HE WAS NOT IN FAVOR OF THE ADDITION OF AN ASSISTANT CITY ADMINISTRATOR POSITION. SEVIERVILLE’S BUDGET FOR THE COMING FISCAL YEAR WILL BE TWENTY FOUR AND A HALF MILLION DOLLARS.

Career criminal sentenced to more than six years.
A SEVIER COUNTY MAN WITH AN EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL HISTORY WAS SENTENCED TO MORE THAN SIX YEARS IN JAIL BY A FEDERAL JUDGE YESTERDAY. BOBBY LYNN TEASTER WAS ARRESTED LAST JUNE AFTER ALLEGEDLY BRANDISHING A GUN FOLLOWING A WRECK ON JONES COVE ROAD. WHEN SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES TRIED TO ARREST TEASTER, HE FOUGHT WITH THEM, LEAVING THEM NO OPTION BUT TO USE PEPPER SPRAY AND A STUN GUN TO SUBDUE HIM. TEASTER WAS CHARGED WITH BEING A CONVICTED FELON IN POSSESSION OF A FIREARM. U.S. DISTRICT JUDGE TOM VARLAN SAID THAT TEASTER WAS A “MEAN DRUNK” WITH A CRIMINAL HISTORY THAT HAD SPANNED THE LAST TWO DECADES, AND THAT HIS CASE MERITED NO MERCY.

A SINGLE VEHICLE SCOOTER ACCIDENT ON THE SPUR MONDAY AFTERNOON SENT THE RIDER TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE WRECK WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 1:30 IN THE NORTHBOUND LANES NEAR THE ENTRANCE TO THE WESTGATE RESORT. ACCORDING TO GATLINBURG FIRE CHIEF GARY WEST, THE 24 YEAR OLD MALE RIDER WHO WAS VISITING THE AREA FROM VIRGINIA, RECEIVED KNEE AND FACIAL INJURIES. THE GATLINBURG FIRE DEPARTMENT, POLICE DEPARTMENT AND PARK RANGERS RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Wreck kills Sevierville man.
A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK SATURDAY NIGHT IN SEVIER COUNTY CLAIMED THE LIFE OF A SEVIERVILLE MAN. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 7 O CLOCK ON NEWCOMB HOLLOW ROAD NEAR THE INTERSECTION WITH MCCARTER HOLLOW ROAD. 23 YEAR OLD ALEX WITHROW WAS A PASSENGER IN A VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN BY 23 YEAR OLD TRACY KING OF SEVIERVILLE. APPARENTLY, KING LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR WHICH TRAVELED DOWN AN EMBANKMENT AND FLIPPED SEVERAL TIMES. WITHROW WAS THROWN FROM THE VEHICLE AND PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. KING WAS TREATED AND LATER RELEASED FROM THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE. AUTHORITIES BELIEVE THAT BOTH MEN HAD BEEN DRINKING AND THAT EXCESSIVE SPEED MAY HAVE CONTRIBUTED TO THAT WRECK. THE PIGEON FORGE FIRE DEPARTMENT, THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE AND THE TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Fires destroy homes.
SEVIER COUNTIES FIRE FIGHTERS WERE KEPT BUSY FRIDAY AFTERNOON. THE SEVIERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO AN APARTMENT FIRE JUST AFTER 12:30 AT THE GATEWAY VILLAGE APARTMENTS ON WEST PAINE STREET. ACCORDING TO FIRE CHIEF MIKE RAWLINGS, THE FIRE WAS CONTAINED TO THE LIVING ROOM, AND QUICKLY CONTROLLED AND EXTINGUISHED BY FIRE FIGHTERS. THE HOME WAS BADLY DAMAGED BY LUCKILY NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. ANOTHER FIRE JUST BEFORE 3 O CLOCK DESTROYED A SEVIER COUNTY TRAILER. THE BLAZE WAS REPORTED IN THE ONE HUNDRED BLOCK OF FLAT CREEK ROAD. ALTHOUGH THE HOME WAS DESTROYED, AGAIN, LUCKILY NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE SEVIER COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THAT BLAZE.

Body found this morning.
AUTHORITIES HAD TO BREAK THEIR WAY INTO A HOME IN THE NEW CENTRE COMMUNITY LATE LAST NIGHT FOLLOWING A WELFARE CALL FROM A NEIGHBOR. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE MIDNIGHT AT A HOUSE ON GREEN TREE WAY, JUST OFF OLD NEWPORT HIGHWAY. WHEN SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTIES ENTERED THE HOME, THEY FOUND THE 78 YEAR OLD MALE RESIDENT DEAD. EARLY INDICATIONS SUGGEST THAT THE MAN HAD DIED AFTER FALLING INTO A DIABETIC COMA, AND HAD PROBABLY BEEN DECEASED FOR AT LEAST THREE DAYS. THAT INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE NEW CENTRE VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY RESCUE SQUAD RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

High speed pursuit ends with wreck.
A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT THAT STARTED IN GATLINBURG THURSDAY MORNING, ENDED WHEN THE VEHICLE WRECKED IN NORTH CAROLINA. THE INCIDENT BEGAN JUST AFTER 7 AM WHEN THE DRIVER OF A BLUEISH – GREEN HONDA ACCORD WAS ALLEGEDLY INVOLVED IN A GAS DRIVE OFF AT A GATLINBURG CONVENIENCE STORE. THE CAR WHICH HAD NORTH CAROLINA PLATES WAS ALSO APPARENTLY LISTED AS STOLEN. GATLINBURG POLICE OFFICERS SPOTTED THE VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY 321 AND BEGAN TO PURSUE THE CAR, WHICH AT TIMES WAS TRAVELLING IN EXCESS OF ONE HUNDRED MILES PER HOUR. OTHER JURISDICTIONS JOINED IN THE PURSUIT WHICH FINALLY ENDED WITH THE USE OF STOP STICKS, BY NORTH CAROLINA TROOPERS IN BUNCOMBE COUNTY. THE VEHICLE WRECKED BUT THE DRIVER AND THREE OTHER PASSENGERS WERE ALL UN-INJURED. THE DRIVER WAS IDENTIFIED AS JOHN ALLEN MATHEWS WHO HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF A STOLEN VEHICLE, EVADING ARREST, RECKLESS DRIVING AND RESISTING ARREST. MATHEWS MAY ALSO FACE ADDITIONAL CHARGES IN SEVIER COUNTY.

SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY TOBY MERRITT WAS LAID TO REST YESTERDAY AT THE SMOKY MOUNTAINS MEMORY GARDENS, FOLLOWING A FUNERAL SERVICE AT ATCHLEY FUNERAL HOME. 31 YEAR OLD MERRITT DIED AS A RESULT OF A MOTOR CYCLE ACCIDENT ON SATURDAY. HE HAD SERVED WITH THE SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT FOR TEN YEARS. MERRITT LEAVES BEHIND A WIFE AND DAUGHTER.

AN ON-GOING DOMESTIC ALTERCATION IN SEVIERVILLE EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING ENDED WITH AN ALLEGED AGGRAVATED ASSAULT. OFFICERS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THE APARTMENT ON CLUB DRIVE JUST BEFORE 7:30. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER DRU DENNIS, 22 YEAR OLD CASEY PROFFITT OF SEVIERVILLE TOLD AUTHORITIES THAT SHE HAD BEEN ALLEGEDLY SHOT WITH A BB GUN BY 20 YEAR OLD RACHEL CANNON OF PIGEON FORGE. THE TWO WOMEN HAD APPARENTLY BEEN IN AN ARGUMENT FOR SEVERAL HOURS WHICH LED TO THE PHYSICAL ALTERCATION. NO SERIOUS INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

A BIZARRE ACCIDENT THIS MORNING IN SEVIER COUNTY SENT ONE PERSON TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 2 AM AT A RESIDENCE ON UNION HILL DRIVE, JUST OFF KELLUM CREEK ROAD. APPARENTLY, A MALE SUBJECT WAS WORKING ON HIS CAR WHEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE FAILED, AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED ON TOP OF HIM. A LANDING ZONE WAS SET UP IN THE LOWES PARKING LOT ON HIGHWAY 66, AND THE UN-NAMED VICTIM WAS FLOWN TO UT WITH A HEAD INJURY. HIS CONDITION IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT, THE SEVIER COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

Pigeon Forge police investigate alleged stabbing.
DETECTIVES WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE STILL INVESTIGATING AN ALLEGED STABBING THAT LED TO A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT FRIDAY EVENING. ACCORDING TO PIGEON FORGE POLICE CHIEF JACK BALDWIN, INVESTIGATORS WANT TO TALK TO 19 YEAR OLD TERESA DEMERLE AND 31 YEAR OLD WILLIAM BAIL-RAGON, WHO ARE CURRENTLY RECOVERING AT THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE FROM INJURIES THEY SUSTAINED WHEN THEIR VEHICLE WRECKED ON JAY-EL ROAD. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, THE TWO SUSPECTS GOT INTO AN ALTERCATION WITH A 15 YEAR OLD FEMALE AT THE RIDGEWOOD VILLAGE APARTMENTS JUST AFTER 10 O CLOCK FRIDAY NIGHT. DURING THE FIGHT, DEMERLE ALLEGEDLY RECEIVED A LACERATION TO THE ARM WHICH SHE CLAIMED WAS THE RESULT OF A KNIFE WOUND. THAT INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING.

A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN THE WEARS VALLEY COMMUNITY CAUSED SOME PROBLEMS FOR EMERGENCY WORKERS. APPARENTLY, JUST BEFORE 3:30, AN UN-NAMED MALE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF HIS DUMP TRUCK ON VALLEY VIEW WAY. THE VEHICLE RAN INTO A DITCH, FLIPPED ONTO IT’S SIDE, AND BEGAN TO LEAK FUEL. ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER WAS NOT SERIOUSLY INJURED, FIRE FIGHTERS HAD TO CONTAIN THE FUEL LEAK. A SEVIERVILLE MAN IS DEAD AFTER AN APPARENT DROWNING AT DOUGLAS LAKE. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED SUNDAY EVENING JUST AFTER 7 O CLOCK. ACCORDING TO A TVA SPOKESPERSON, 24 YEAR OLD SHANNON DUCKWORTH WAS USING A PERSONAL WATERCRAFT WHEN THE DROWNING OCCURRED. AUTHORITIES SAY THAT IT IS UNCLEAR IF HE WAS BY HIMSELF OR WITH OTHERS. THAT INCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION.

A PIGEON FORGE HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT IS MISSING AND AUTHORITIES ARE CONCERNED ABOUT HIS WELFARE. 17 YEAR OLD BRYAN NORKUS WAS LAST HEARD FROM LAST TUESDAY. DETECTIVES WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT BELIEVE THAT AN ADULT CALLED BOBBY FERGUSON MAY HAVE CONVINCED NORKUS TO LEAVE WITH HIM IN ORDER TO SELL MAGAZINE SUBSCRIPTIONS DOOR TO DOOR. NORKUS IS DESCRIBED AS A WHITE MALE, SIX FOOT SIX INCHES TALL, APPROXIMATELY 285 POUNDS WITH SANDY BROWN HAIR AND HAZEL COLORED EYES. ACCORDING TO SERGEANT STEVE HELTON WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 1:30 FRIDAY AFTERNOON. APPARENTLY, A COUPLE FROM ST. PETERSBURG FLORIDA WERE RIDING THE MOPEDS ALONG THE PARKWAY WHEN THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED. GEORGE KIMMONS APPARENTLY SLOWED DOWN AT AN INTERSECTION WHEN HIS WIFE, DENISE KIMMONS, RAN INTO THE BACK OF HIM. DENISE KIMMONS WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL WITH UNKNOWN INJURIES. SEVIER COUNTY’S RELAY FOR LIFE FUNDRAISING EVENT APPARENTLY RAISED MORE THAN 200 THOUSAND DOLLARS. THE FINAL AMOUNT SHOULD BE AVAILABLE THIS WEEK. LAST YEAR’S EVENT RAISED MORE THAN 230 THOUSAND AND THIS YEAR THE ORGANIZATION HAD HOPPED TO RAISE IN EXCESS OF 250 THOUSAND DOLLARS. AN ESTIMATED TWENTY FIVE HUNDRED WALKERS AND MORE THAN THIRTY TEAMS PARTICIPATED IN THE WEEKEND EVENT AT THE SEVIER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL BURCHFIELD STADIUM.

A HIGH SPEED PURSUIT FRIDAY EVENING IN SEVIER COUNTY SENT TWO PEOPLE TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 10:30 WHEN PIGEON FORGE POLICE OFFICERS WERE DISPATCHED TO THE RIDGE WOOD VILLAGE APARTMENTS TO INVESTIGATE AN ALLEGED STABBING. WHEN OFFICERS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, TWO SUSPECTS IN A WHITE VEHICLE left the area AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. OFFICERS PURSUED THE FLEEING VEHICLE ALONG RIDGE ROAD, MIDDLE CREEK ROAD AND TO JAY-EL ROAD WHERE THE DRIVER OF THE SUSPECT VEHICLE LOST CONTROL AND WRECKED. TWO PIGEON FORGE POLICE CRUISERS WERE ALSO DAMAGED AT THE SCENE OF THE ACCIDENT. THE DRIVER, WILLIAM BAILRAGON OF SEVIERVILLE AND PASSENGER TERESA DEMERLE WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE WITH NON-LIFE THREATENING INJURIES. DETECTIVE BART STINNETT IS STILL INVESTIGATING THE ALLEGED STABBING INCIDENT. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED SATURDAY NIGHT JUST AFTER 8:30 JUST WEST OF THE DUMPLIN VALLEY LOOP ROAD INTERSECTION. 31 YEAR OLD TOBY MERRITT OF KODAK, WHO WAS OFF DUTY AT THE TIME, APPARENTLY LOST CONTROL OF HIS HARLEY DAVIDSON BIKE WHILE NEGOTIATING A CURVE. MERRITT WAS FLOWN TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE VIA LIFESTAR BUT APPARENTLY DIED EN ROUTE. MERRITT LEAVES BEHIND A WIFE AND DAUGHTER. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FROM 6 UNTIL 9 ON TUESDAY AT ATCHLEY FUNERAL HOME. FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE HELD WEDNESDAY MORNING AT 11.

THE MAN WHO TESTIFIED AGAINST THE TWO MEN CONVICTED OF THE ROCKY TOP MURDERS IN GATLINBURG NEARLY 20 YEARS AGO, WAS RELEASED FROM JAIL YESTERDAY. RUFUS DOLBY, ALSO KNOWN AS ASHLEY SILVERS, WAS CONVICTED OF ROBBERY DURING THE CRIME SPREE AT THE ROCKY TOP VILLAGE INN WHICH CLAIMED THE LIVES OF THE NIGHT CLERK AND A SECURITY GUARD. DOLBY SERVED SIXTEEN YEARS IN JAIL.

A SEVIER COUNTY COUPLE HAS BEEN ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH AN ELABORATE INCOME TAX FRAUD SCHEME. REAL ESTATE DEVELOPERS ARNOLD SCHMITT AND KATHLEEN SCHMITT, HAVE BOTH BEEN CHARGED WITH ONE COUNT OF CONSPIRACY TO DEFRAUD THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT, AND THREE COUNTS OF FAILURE TO FILE TAX RETURNS WITH THE I.R.S. IF CONVICTED, THEY COULD BOTH FACE UP TO EIGHT YEARS IN PRISON AND FINES IN EXCESS OF HALF A MILLION DOLLARS. THE SCHMITT’S OWNED AND OPERATED ALPINE MOUNTAIN CHALETS AND DEVELOPED THE ALPINE RIDGE SUBDIVISION ON EVANS CHAPEL ROAD.

A THREE VEHICLE WRECK IN SEVIERVILLE WEDNESDAY MORNING SENT ONE PERSON TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 7:30 ON PARK ROAD NEAR VULCAN MATERIALS. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER TIM COULTER, A CHEVY TRACKER BEING DRIVEN BY 48 YEAR OLD WILLIAM RACHEL OF SEVIERVILLE, COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY 34 YEAR OLD KIMBERLY ROBBINS OF SEVIER COUNTY. THE COLLISION THEN FORCED THE TRACKER TO COLLIDE WITH A CHEVY SUBURBAN BEING DRIVEN BY 43 YEAR OLD WENDY BRYAN OF SEVIER COUNTY. PARK ROAD WAS CLOSED FOR OVER AN HOUR. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Family considers lawsuit against school system.
A SEYMOUR FAMILY IS THREATENING TO FILE A TEN MILLION DOLLAR LAWSUIT AGAINST THE SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM. KARLA BAILEY CLAIMS THAT HER 11 YEAR OLD SON WAS ACCUSED OF EXPOSING HIMSELF TO A GIRL WHILE RIDING A SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL BUS HOME FROM THE SEYMOUR INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL. THE GIRL LATER ADMITTED THAT SHE MADE THE WHOLE THING UP BUT NOT BEFORE THE BOY HAD BEEN BEATEN, AND HAD ALSO BEEN THE VICTIM OF RACIAL SLURS LEVIED BY FELLOW STUDENTS. BAILEY SAID THAT HER SON WAS FORCED TO TAKE ASSIGNED SEATING AT THE FRONT OF THE BUS, AND ALLEGEDLY A REPRESENTATIVE FROM THE SCHOOL SYSTEM SUGGESTED THAT BAILEY CONSIDERED TRANSFERRING HER CHILD TO ANOTHER SCHOOL. OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL SYSTEM SAID THAT THEY WILL VIGOROUSLY DEFEND AGAINST THE LAWSUIT WHICH THEY FEEL IS UNFOUNDED. THE SUIT APPARENTLY WILL BE FILED NEXT WEEK CITING ALLEGED CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS, PAIN AND SUFFERING.

Two charged with Sevierville burglary.
OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAVE NOW NAMED TWO SEVIER COUNTY MEN THAT WERE ARRESTED EARLY MONDAY MORNING AFTER ALLEGEDLY STEALING TWO ATV’S, A TRUCK AND VARIOUS CAR STEREO’S FROM A SEVIERVILLE BUSINESS. THE BURGLARY WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 2:30 AM AT SEVIERVILLE TRUCK AND IMPORT ON DOLLY PARTON PARKWAY. APPARENTLY, TWO TRUCKS BOTH CARRYING ATV’S WERE BOTH SEEN DRIVING ON HARDIN LANE. ONE OF THE VEHICLES WAS STOPPED, BUT THE OTHER ONE LEFT THE SCENE. THE TRUCK DRIVER, 18 YEAR OLD JOHN OCUTO OF SEVIER COUNTY AND HIS PASSENGER, 20 YEAR OLD JUSTIN WEAVER OF PIGEON FORGE WERE BOTH ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH THE THEFT OF A TRUCK, TWO ATV’S, VEHICLE BURGLARIES AND THE BURGLARY OF THE BUSINESS. THE OTHER TRUCK, ANOTHER ATV AND ADDITIONAL CAR STEREO EQUIPMENT WERE FOUND ABANDONED ON NEW ERA ROAD NEAR MATHEWS HOLLOW ROAD. AUTHORITIES ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR THE TWO ADDITIONAL SUSPECTS. THE CONTRACT FOR THE HORSEBACK RIDING CONCESSION NEAR THE SUGARLANDS VISITOR CENTRE INSIDE THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK, IS UP FOR GRABS ONCE AGAIN. THE CONTRACT THAT HAD BEEN HELD BY THE FAMILY OF THE LATE DON MANNIS WAS APPARENTLY TERMINATED LAST MONTH. ACCORDING TO OFFICIALS, THE MANNIS FAMILY DID NOT DEMONSTRATE THE ABILITY TO MEET THEIR CONTRACTUAL REQUIREMENTS. DON MANIS WAS AWARDED THE CONCESSION IS 2003 BUT DIED IN EARLY 2004. A TEMPORARY CONTRACT FOR THE CONCESSION WILL BE AWARDED FOR THE 2005 AND 2006 SEASONS, AFTER WHICH THE CONCESSION WILL ONCE AGAIN BE PUT UP FOR BID.

Sevierville wreck claims another life.
A TWO VEHICLE WRECK IN SEVIERVILLE TUESDAY MORNING CLAIMED THE LIFE OF ONE OF THE DRIVERS. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 10:30 IN THE SOUTHBOUND LANES OF HIGHWAY 66 NEAR THOMAS HILL BURGIN. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER JAMIE ROBERTS, A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 52 YEAR OLD REBECCA STEIN OF KODAK WAS ATTEMPTING TO CROSS THE HIGHWAY FROM THE MEDIAN, WHEN SHE WAS HIT BY A TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY 73 YEAR OLD GERALD LANOUETTE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA. STEIN WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD AT THE SCENE. LANOUETTE AND HIS PASSENGER, 62 YEAR OLD MARLENE LANOUETTE, WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE WITH UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE SOUTHBOUND LANES OF HIGHWAY 66 WERE CLOSED FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO AND A HALF HOURS. THAT ACCIDENT IS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, THE NORTHVIEW VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Visitor to G.S.M.Park dies.
A VISITOR TO THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS NATIONAL PARK DIED OF AN APPARENT HEART ATTACK SUNDAY AFTERNOON. 55 YEAR OLD JOHN BOLINGER OF CHATTANOOGA, WAS HIKING UP MOUNT LECONTE WITH A GROUP OF FRIENDS WHEN HE COLLAPSED ABOUT A MILE FROM THE LODGE. STAFF MEMBERS FROM THE LODGE WENT TO BOLINGER’S AID BUT UNFORTUNATELY IT WAS TOO LATE. HIS BODY WAS CARRIED BACK DOWN THE MOUNTAIN BY PARK RANGERS ON HORSEBACK AND THEN TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE.

A THREE VEHICLE WRECK IN SEVIERVILLE SATURDAY NIGHT, CLAIMED THE LIVES OF TWO PEOPLE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 7 O CLOCK IN THE THIRTEEN HUNDRED BLOCK OF DOLLY PARTON PARKWAY, NEAR THE BURCHFIELD SUBDIVISION. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER STEVE FORD, A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 20 YEAR OLD HOWARD SHULER OF SEVIER COUNTY, COLLIDED WITH A MOTORCYCLE BEING RIDDEN BY 42 YEAR OLD BOBBY HUFFNER JUNIOR OF DANDRIDGE. THE COLLISION FORCED THE BIKE INTO THE PATH OF A TRUCK BEING DRIVEN BY 31 YEAR OLD SEAN MORRIS OF SEVIER COUNTY. HUFFNER WAS TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. HIS MOTORCYCLE PASSENGER, 44 YEAR OLD DANA HUFFNER WAS FLOWN VIA LIFESTAR TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE WHERE SHE ALSO LATER DIED. POSSIBLE CHARGES AGAINST SHULER ARE PENDING AN INVESTIGATION. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

APRIL’S UNEMPLOYMENT RATE WAS LISTED AT SIX PERCENT, A THREE POINT SIX PERCENT DECREASE FROM THE PREVIOUS MONTH. THE DROP IN NUMBERS IS DUE TO THE ANNUAL SEASONAL JOB HIRING PRACTICES.

A SEVIER COUNTY WOMAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH STEALING MONEY FROM A PIGEON FORGE THEATRE. 39 YEAR OLD CAROLYN MCCARTER WAS APPARENTLY WORKING AS AN ACCOUNTANT FOR THE CLASSIC COUNTRY THEATRE, AND ALLEGEDLY STOLE THIRTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS IN CASH FROM THE BUSINESS. MCCARTER WAS CHARGED WITH THEFT OF PROPERTY AND HAS BEEN RELEASED ON SEVENTY FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS BOND.

A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK IN SEVIER COUNTY THURSDAY MORNING SENT ONE PERSON TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 7 AM IN THE THIRTY TWO HUNDRED BLOCK OF WEST MOUNT ROAD, CLOSE TO THE INTERSECTION WITH HIGHWAY 66. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE SERGEANT SAM HINSON, 25 YEAR OLD SUE WORKMAN OF SEVIERVILLE, LOST CONTROL OF HER FORD MUSTANG AND HIT A GUARDRAIL. THE PASSENGER IN THE CAR, 36 YEAR OLD JOEY KING OF PIGEON FORGE, ALLEGEDLY FLED THE SCENE ON FOOT FOLLOWING THAT WRECK. HE WAS FOUND A SHORT TIME LATER WHICH IS WHEN SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER MIKE CLAYTON, DISCOVERED THAT HE HAD AN OUTSTANDING WARRANT FOR VIOLATION OF PROBATION. ACCORDING TO PIGEON FORGE FIRE ADMINISTRATOR GREG PATTERSON, THE HOME WAS DESTROYED BUT LUCKILY, NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE CAUSE OF THAT BLAZE IS NOT KNOWN AT THIS TIME. A FORMER SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED BURGLARY AND THEFT. ACCORDING TO DETECTIVE JEFF MCCARTER, 31 YEAR OLD DOUG TRENTHAM ALLEGEDLY STOLE THREE CHAIN SAWS, AN AIR COMPRESSOR, A PRESSURE WASHER, A WEED EATER, A LEAF BLOWER, A GENERATOR, AND VARIOUS OTHER TOOLS FROM THE ENGLISH MOUNTAIN HOME OF JOHN WAYNE BLAIR, WHO WAS RECENTLY CHARGED WITH MURDER. APPARENTLY, TRENTHAM WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WATCHING THE HOME WHICH WAS VACANT WHILE BLAIR WAS ON THE RUN. TRENTHAM RESIGNED FROM THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT DURING THAT INVESTIGATION. SHERIFF BRUCE MONTGOMERY SAID THAT IT WAS A SAD DAY FOR HIS DEPARTMENT AND ASKED THAT SEVIER COUNTY RESIDENTS NOT JUDGE THE REST OF HIS DEPARTMENT ON THE ACTIONS OF ONE PERSON. TRENTHAM WAS RELEASED ON TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS BAIL. NO COURT DATE HAS YET BEEN SET.

DRINNEN AND A PASSENGER IN HIS VEHICLE, 80 YEAR OLD RUBY DRINNEN, WERE TRAPPED IN THEIR CAR AND HAD TO BE EXTRICATED BY SEVIERVILLE FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL. JAMES DRINNEN WAS TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE WHERE HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD. RUBY DRINNEN WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE UT MEDICAL CENTRE WITH UNKNOWN INJURIES. BIRD WAS UNINJURED BUT CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD TO A TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICE.

THE SCHEDULED SEASONAL OPENING HAD TO BE DELAYED UNTIL REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE FACILITIES, WHICH HAD BEEN VANDALIZED. Authorities name suspect in ATV theft.
AUTHORITIES HAVE NOW NAMED THE PERSON THAT THEY BELIEVE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR STEALING AN ATV FROM MOUNTAIN ADVENTURES HONDA EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER MATT AYRES, 38 YEAR OLD JAMES VERNON SMITH OF KNOXVILLE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH THEFT AND BURGLARY. AYRES BELIEVES THAT SMITH USED A TRUCK TO DRIVE THROUGH A WINDOW TO GAIN ENTRY TO THE STORE. SMITH, WAS TOWING A BRAND NEW ATV, WAS HE WAS STOPPED JUST AFTER 3:30 AM BY A TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER ON JOHN SEVIER HIGHWAY. NO COURT DATE HAS YET BEEN SET.

ATTORNEY’S FOR AMUSEMENT RIDE MANAGER CHARLES STAN MARTIN, ARE NOW SAYING THAT THEY WILL SEEK PROBATION FOR THEIR CLIENT. WHO WAS CONVICTED OF RECKLESS HOMICIDE ON MONDAY. THE LAW FIRM REPRESENTING MARTIN FEEL THAT A POSSIBLE TWO TO FOUR YEAR PRISON TERM WOULD BE TOO HARSH A PUNISHMENT. MARTIN WILL BE SENTENCED BY JUDGE RICHARD VANCE ON JULY 29TH AT WHICH TIME ATTORNEY’S WILL MAKE THEIR APPEAL. MARTIN WAS CONVICTED IN THE DEATH OF JUNE ALEXANDER, WHO FELL FROM THE HAWK RIDE IN PIGEON FORGE LAST MARCH.

Sevier Co. Sobriety checkpoint results.
A SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT OVER THE WEEKEND IN SEVIER COUNTY RESULTED IN 62 CITATIONS BEING ISSUED. THE CHECK POINT WAS SET UP ON HIGHWAY 441 AT THE SEVIERVILLE CITY LIMITS BETWEEN 11:30 FRIDAY NIGHT AND ONE AM SATURDAY MORNING. MOST OF THE CITATIONS WERE FOR MINOR INFRACTIONS SUCH AS INVALID REGISTRATIONS, NON USE OF A SEAT BELT, ETC. BUT THE CHECKPOINT ALSO LED TO THREE DUI ARRESTS AND FOUR MISDEMEANOR DRUG CHARGES. OFFICIALS ESTIMATE THAT APPROXIMATELY 381 VEHICLES PASSED THROUGH THE CHECKPOINT.

ATV stolen from Sevierville business this morning.
OFFICIALS WITH THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT ARE INVESTIGATING THE BURGLARY OF A BUSINESS THAT HAPPENED EARLY THIS MORNING. APPARENTLY, JUST AFTER 3 AM, AN ALL TERRAIN VEHICLE WAS STOLEN FROM MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE HONDA ON WEST DUMPLIN VALLEY ROAD NEAR THE INTERSTATE. THE ALLEGED MALE THIEF WHO WAS APPARENTLY IN POSSESSION OF THE MISSING ATV, WAS APPREHENDED ON JOHN SEVIER HIGHWAY BY A TENNESSEE HIGHWAY PATROL OFFICER. THE SUSPECT WAS THEN TRANSFERRED INTO THE CUSTODY OF SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICERS AND TAKEN TO THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT FOR QUESTIONING. Wreck closes Sevier Co. road.
A SINGLE VEHICLE WRECK TUESDAY AFTERNOON IN SEVIER COUNTY CAUSED TRAFFIC PROBLEMS FOR ABOUT AN HOUR. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 2:30 IN THE 900 BLOCK OF GOOSE GAP ROAD, NEAR THE INTERSECTION WITH SUGAR LOAF. APPARENTLY, THE FEMALE DRIVER OF A TRUCK LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH ENDED UP ON IT’S SIDE LEAKING FUEL. LUCKILY, THE DRIVER WAS UN-INJURED. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

THE CITY OF GATLINBURG HAS ONE NEW COMMISSIONER AND ONE RETURNING INCUMBENT FOLLOWING YESTERDAY’S ELECTION. THE TWO COMMISSION SEATS WERE TAKEN BY CHALLENGER HARRY MONTGOMERY WITH 540 VOTES AND INCUMBENT DON SMITH WITH 433 VOTES. INCUMBENT JEFF COLLART CAME IN THIRD WITH 315 VOTES AND SUBSEQUENTLY LOST HIS COMMISSION SEAT. THE ELECTION RESULTS WILL BE CERTIFIED BY THE SEVIER COUNTY ELECTION COMMISSION NEXT WEEK.

IT TOOK A SEVIER COUNTY JURY JUST OVER TWO HOURS TO FIND CHARLES STAN MARTIN GUILTY OF RECKLESS HOMICIDE IN THE DEATH OF A NASHVILLE WOMAN, WHO FELL FROM THE HAWK RIDE IN PIGEON FORGE LAST MARCH. THE DECISION WAS ANNOUNCED JUST BEFORE 8:30 LAST NIGHT. MARTIN WAS HOWEVER FOUND NOT GUILTY OF SECOND DEGREE MURDER. HE WAS ALSO FINED FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS. MARTIN COULD FACE A SENTENCE OF TWO TO FOUR YEARS IN PRISON WHEN HE IS SENTENCED IN JULY.

THE SEVIERVILLE WATER SYSTEMS WILL NOW BECOME A CITY OF SEVIERVILLE DEPARTMENT, FOLLOWING A VOTE LAST NIGHT DURING THE BOARD OF MAYOR AND ALDERMEN MEETING. NEWLY ELECTED ALDERMAN DALE CARR JOINED ALDERMEN ED WHITE, JERRY LOVEDAY AND TRAVIS MCCROSKEY IN VOTING FOR THE DISSOLUTION OF THE INDEPENDENTLY RUN ORGANIZATION. ONLY RECENTLY RE-ELECTED CLAUDE OWNBY VOTED AGAINST THE ORDINANCE. ALSO DURING THAT MEETING, ALDERMEN DECIDED ONCE AGAIN DECIDED AGAINST ANY PROPERTY TAX INCREASE FOR THE COMING FISCAL YEAR.

Sevier Co. man arrested on drug & weapon charges.
A SEVIER COUNTY MAN WAS ARRESTED MONDAY MORNING AFTER OFFICIALS FOUND HIM ASLEEP IN A VEHICLE THAT WAS BLOCKING THE DRIVE THROUGH LANE AT A SEVIERVILLE RESTAURANT. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER JAMIE ROBERTS, THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 7:30 AT THE KRYSTAL RESTAURANT ON FORKS OF THE RIVER PARKWAY. STEVEN GARY JUNIOR, WAS ALLEGEDLY IN POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA AND COCAINE, A TWENTY FIVE CALIBER HANDGUN AND WAS ALSO WANTED 0N AN ACTIVE STATE WARRANT FOR FORGERY. ADDITION CHARGES ARE EXPECTED. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

THE TRIAL OF CHARLES STAN MARTIN, THE AMUSEMENT PARK MANAGER ACCUSED OF CONTRIBUTING TO THE DEATH OF A NASHVILLE WOMAN WHO FELL FROM THE HAWK RIDE IN PIGEON FORGE LAST MARCH, WILL RESUME TODAY AT THE SEVIER COUNTY COURTHOUSE. THE STATE RESTED IT’S CASE ON FRIDAY AND DURING A RARE SATURDAY COURT SESSION, STAN MARTIN TOOK THE STAND IN HIS OWN DEFENSE. MARTIN IS CHARGED WITH SECOND DEGREE MURDER AND RECKLESS HOMICIDE.

A TWO VEHICLE WRECK IN SEVIERVILLE TUESDAY MORNING SENT TWO PEOPLE TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 8 O CLOCK AT THE INTERSECTION OF ALLENSVILLE ROAD AND OLD DOUGLAS DAM ROAD. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER GRAHAM OWNBY, A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 55 YEAR OLD YOLAURA MOORE OF SEVIERVILLE, COLLIDED WITH A VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN BY 26 YEAR OLD ERIC SANCHEZ OF GATLINBURG. MOORE AND HER PASSENGER, 8 YEAR OLD SAMMY MOORE WERE BOTH TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER. SANCHEZ WAS CITED FOR FAILURE TO YIELD AND FOR NOT HAVING PROOF OF INSURANCE.

THREE SEVIER COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WERE ARRESTED ON THURSDAY, AFTER ONE OF THEM TRIED TO PASS A FAKE TWENTY DOLLAR BILL IN THE SCHOOL CAFETERIA. APPARENTLY, THE THREE SIXTEEN YEAR OLD STUDENTS ALLEGEDLY MADE THE FAKE BILLS ON A HOME COMPUTER. THE UN-NAMED JUVENILES COULD NOW FACE FELONY CHARGES AS WELL AS DISCIPLINARY ACTION FROM THE SCHOOL SYSTEM. THE THREE STUDENT HAVE BEEN SUSPENDED.

SEVIERVILLE RESIDENTS WENT TO THE POLLS YESTERDAY AND RE-ELECTED AN INCUMBENT MAYOR AND AN INCUMBENT ALDERMAN. THE OTHER ALDERMEN SEAT UP FOR GRABS WAS WON BY POLITICAL NEWCOMER DALE CARR. IN THE MAYORAL RACE, BRYAN ATCHLEY DEFEATED BARRY GIBBS, BY ONE THOUSAND AND EIGHTY TWO VOTES TO SEVEN HUNDRED AND EIGHTY VOTES. THE FOUR CANDIDATES RUNNING FOR THE TWO AVAILABLE ALDERMEN SEATS HAD THE FOLLOWING VOTES: DALE CARR – 981 VOTES CLAUDE OWNBY – 954 VOTES JACK CONNER – 739 VOTES AND RON OGLE – 702 VOTES. Sevier County school bus wreck injures three
THREE SEVIER COUNTY CHILDREN WERE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL TUESDAY AFTERNOON AFTER THE SCHOOL BUS THAT THEY WERE RIDING ON, WAS INVOLVED IN A WRECK. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 12:30 ON VOLUNTEER BOULEVARD IN KNOXVILLE. THE KIDS FROM THE SEYMOUR INTERMEDIATE SCHOOL WERE ON A FIELD TRIP TO THE MCCLUNG MUSEUM. THE CHILDREN THAT WERE TRANSPORTED RECEIVED JUST MINOR INJURIES. 41 YEAR OLD LEANNE SEAGLE – THE DRIVER OF THE SEVIER COUNTY SCHOOL BUS WAS UNINJURED. THE DRIVER THAT REAR-ENDED THE BUS, 21 YEAR OLD PAMELA SMITH WAS CITED FOR FOLLOWING TOO CLOSELY.

A SEVIER COUNTY WOMAN WILL APPEAR IN COURT NEXT WEEK AFTER BEING CHARGED WITH TENNCARE FRAUD AND PRESCRIPTION DRUG FRAUD. 50 YEAR OLD PAMELA WINTERS WAS ARRESTED BY OFFICIALS WITH THE PIGEON FORGE POLICE DEPARTMENT AFTER A WARRANT WAS TAKEN OUT FOR HER ARREST, BY THE OFFICE OF THE TENNCARE INSPECTOR GENERAL. OFFICIALS SAY THAT WINTERS TRIED TO PASS A FORGED PRESCRIPTION FOR METHADONE AT A PIGEON FORGE PHARMACY ON FEBRUARY 3RD, AND TRIED TO USE HER TENNCARE CARD TO PAY FOR IT. WINTERS IS CURRENTLY BEING HELD AT THE SEVIER COUNTY JAIL AND WILL APPEAR IN COURT ON MAY 13TH.

THE SEVIER COUNTY COMMISSION WATER COMMITTEE HAS AGREED TO WAIT THIRTY DAYS, BEFORE PURSUING A LAW SUIT AGAINST THE CITY OF PIGEON FORGE CONCERNING THE RICHARDSON COVE – JONES COVE WATER LINE. THE DECISION WAS MADE DURING A WORKSHOP MEETING YESTERDAY. ALTHOUGH THE FULL COUNTY COMMISSION VOTED LAST MONTH AGAINST ANY POSSIBLE LAWSUIT, THE WATER COMMITTEE MAY STILL SEEK LEGAL ACTION. THE COUNTY FEELS THAT PIGEON FORGE HAS NOT HONORED AN CONTRACTUAL AGREEMENT TO PROVIDE WATER TO THE COUNTY WATER LINES. U.S. General Attorney to visit Gatlinburg
UNITED STATES ATTORNEY GENERAL ALBERTO GONZALES WILL BE IN GATLINBURG TODAY. GONZALES WILL BE THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE GATLINBURG LAW ENFORCEMENT CONFERENCE BEING HELD AT THE CONVENTION CENTRE. THIS WILL BE THE FIRST APPEARANCE FOR THE NEWLY APPOINTED ATTORNEY GENERAL IN THE STATE OF TENNESSEE.

Sevierville accident sends one to Fort Sanders
A TWO VEHICLE WRECK IN SEVIERVILLE MONDAY NIGHT SENT AT LEAST ONE OF THE DRIVERS TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 9 O CLOCK ON THE PARKWAY AT THE INTERSECTION WITH NEW ERA ROAD. APPARENTLY THE COLLISION BETWEEN THE CAR AND THE S.U.V. CLOSED TWO NORTHBOUND LANES FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.

Meth Lab discovered at Sevierville motel
A SEVIERVILLE MAN WHO WORKED AT A LOCAL MOTEL WAS ARRESTED SATURDAY MORNING, AFTER OFFICIALS DISCOVERED A METHAMPHETAMINE LAB SET UP INSIDE ONE OF THE MOTEL ROOMS. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST AFTER 9 AM AT THE GREEN VALLEY MOTEL ON THE PARKWAY IN SEVIERVILLE. ACCORDING TO DETECTIVE KEVIN BUSH, 34 YEAR OLD KEVIN BLAKE BISHOP WAS ARRESTED AND CHARGED WITH THE ATTEMPTED MANUFACTURE AND POSSESSION OF METH, POSSESSION OF MARIJUANA AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHERNALIA. BISHOP WHO WAS AN EMPLOYEE AT THE MOTEL, WAS RESIDING IN ROOM 127. THE METH LAB WAS DISCOVERED IN ROOM 121. OTHER GUESTS AT THE MOTEL HAD TO BE EVACUATED WHILE THE ROOM WAS DECONTAMINATED. THAT INVESTIGATION IS CONTINUING. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS RESPONDED TO THAT SCENE.

Drug overdose kills Kodak man
A KODAK MAN IS DEAD FOLLOWING ANOTHER APPARENT CRYSTAL METH DRUG OVERDOSE. THE INCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 11 O CLOCK SATURDAY NIGHT AT A HOME ON LEISURE ACRES WAY, JUST OFF WEST MOUNT ROAD. APPARENTLY, THE UN-NAMED VICTIM HAD JUMPED THROUGH A WINDOW WHILE HALLUCINATING, AND DIED A SHORT TIME LATER FROM THE OVERDOSE. THE SEVIER COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT IS INVESTIGATING.

Sevierville wreck injures five
A TWO VEHICLE WRECK SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN SEVIERVILLE SENT FIVE PEOPLE TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER MEDICAL CENTRE. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED JUST BEFORE 12:30 AT THE INTERSECTION OF DOLLY PARTON PARKWAY AND MIDDLE CREEK ROAD. ACCORDING TO SEVIERVILLE POLICE OFFICER MIKE ISRAEL, A CAR BEING DRIVEN BY 51 YEAR OLD JAMES ROBERTS OF WHITE PINE, COLLIDED WITH A VEHICLE BEING DRIVEN BY 41 YEAR OLD BRUCE MILLER OF POWELL. ROBERTS, HIS THREE PASSENGERS, AND A PASSENGER RIDING WITH MILLER, WERE ALL TRANSPORTED TO FORT SANDERS SEVIER WITH UNKNOWN INJURIES. THE SEVIERVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT, FIRE DEPARTMENT AND THE SEVIER COUNTY AMBULANCE SERVICE RESPONDED TO THAT WRECK.
